Kellin Quinn is a mess. He smokes, drinks, uses drugs... His parents hate him, his friends don't understand him and his love life is more than questionable. He has dreams, but no motivation to fulfill them. The only thing that gets Kellin through his days is getting high, or drunk- it doesn't matter, just as long as he isn't sober. And he doubts that will ever change.

Max Dawson is a free spirited girl with a sassy sense of humor and a bad past, trying to prove to the world that she can handle her own. She thinks that by renting a spare room at Vic Fuentes's house will be the next step to achieving her goal at a positive future. She might need a little bit of help from her new friend, though. And as time passes, he becomes more than what she bargained for.
