"The world as I knew it was gone, that I was sure of. The world that was out there was filled with all sorts of unknown dangers, but what was possibly even more nerve racking than that was that I could be the lone survivor in a hostile world." The year is 2099.  The bombings from the Third World War have left what used to be the land of the American dream, into more of a garish nightmare. The few who survived have been horribly mutated by the aftermath, radiation poisoning turning them more into monsters than humans.  Sixteen year old Avery is completely alone, the only one out of her immediate family who survived the bombings. For days she wanders helplessly, hoping to find someone, anyone else who had survived. But it is just when she finally accepts that she is all alone in this new, cold, dark world, that she stumbles upon more hope than she could have ever dreamed of.
