I stood stiff as my father who put all his stress into a single door slammed it behind him causing a loud, disruptive noise that destroyed the image of the peacefulness that was held in the room. The dust became visible when the window blinds lifted up, letting sunlight enter the room once the angered man shut the door with a great amount of force. Dust lingered in the air, slowly coming down to the hardwood floor I stood bare-footed on, feeling the cold my father left my mother and I. My mother's hands softly rested in my swirly hair when she knelt down, passing the warmth from her small hands to me. Her dark eyes welled up with emotion, sparkling like stars in the night sky. Strands of hair that rested on her shoulders slowly fell onto her face as her head fell behind my ear. She was quiet a moment, as if she hesitated to speak, then spoke her words meant for my little ears to listen. "You must become strong, and not foolish like your father, little one." My eyes widened.
