Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff became fugitives of SHIELD after the death of their friend, Director Nicolas Fury. The pair sought out the help of a former pararescue, Sam Wilson. As a team, the capture Jasper Sitwell and make their way to SHIELD's headquarters. On the way, the unthinkable happens. The fabled Winter Solider attacks the trio on the bridge where Sam, Natasha, and Steve are later arrested for treason against SHIELD. Secrets come to light and trust is broken... all because of one man. What they don't know is that this is only the beginning of their problems. ***This work of writing is an alternate ending to Captain America: The Winter Soldier and picks up when everyone gets arrested. read the first one. or not, Bucky's True Love? is more of an intro to this story. but seriously, read it. ... I woke up on the floor of my bathroom. There was blood on my chest and floor. I stood up carefully and saw in the mirror that my nose had been bleeding. I went to the toilet and threw up. I looked at my left arm. This is weird. I flexed it and felt muscles and tendons move. The skin stretched accordingly whenever I bent a finger. Why had it been metal? I noticed my watch on my wrist and looked at the time. 2:47. I've been out for an hour?!

What if it was reversed? What if Bucky never went to hydra? What if Natasha was captured and brainwashed by Red Room Academy? What if Natasha never joined the avengers and became a killer aassaian? What if Natasha couldn't remember Bucky...

{Post AOU, set between the events of Ant-Man and Civil War} Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson have both been on the hunt for The Winter Soldier- but they are both unaware that Natasha Romanoff has been tracking them as they go, trying to gather as much intel as she can, to reassure herself that her former partner was safe.

"Don't tell me this Barnes guy is some sort of cheerful do-gooder." Natalia shrugs, shifting her bag over her shoulder, then slips it off and hands it to him. He takes it with his left, the stronger arm, and stares at her. "Bucky Barnes would hold a girl's bag for her," Natalia says and the Winter Soldier glares. "Would he," he replies dryly and Natalia just smiles at him smugly and turns back around. "Come on, Mr Barnes, we're almost to the station," she says and he follows her grumpily. After destroying HYDRA's ability to take him again, he starts to define himself as more than the Winter Soldier, and maybe as Bucky Barnes, as more of his past surfaces. When Steve asks him to come back into the field, he can't say no, soon finding himself with a support system he hasn't had in decades. He'll need them when tragedy strikes. (eventual Bucky-centric Civil War story)

The Winter Soldier is getting used to working with the Avengers, and coming to terms with who he is and was. The Black Widow has made herself into who she needs to be, but an encounter with a ghost from her past brings back some memories that both of them had forgotten.
