The rich prosper and live in large houses whist the poor do their best to earn money or end up on the streets, but the lowest of all are the Deviants. The war brought with it various chemicals and with them came side effects. With the chemicals no longer in the air, the mutations that it has caused have only just come to light. The Deviants are those that suffered at the hands of these chemicals that have resulted in them gaining certain 'powers'. Afraid of what might come from them, the Deviants became the social outcasts, left homeless and starving but most of all, feared by the rest of the world. In the small town of Sherwood the homeless are arrested and never seen again and when Leo himself is taken, Shay goes on a mission to find out what is happening, only, she never expected one of the rich students to follow her. When they find out what is truly going on, the students are determined to make sure everyone knows what happens inside the walls of the clinics, but they never expected the tables to turn and for them to become the outcasts.
