After Percy and Annabeth fall into Tartarus, who are most likely dead from impact, the rest of the seven fall into a state of depression. The seven or the five of them left know that the House of Hades is somewhere in Epirus, Greece. There they must close the Doors in order to save the world again. But there are flaws in their plan. And always, a hero has to die. So except the unexpected. Piper, Leo, Hazel, Frank and Jason, along with Nico di Angelo, son of Hades, must travel to the House of Hades in Epirus, Greece, where they promise to meet Percy and Annabeth. The six demigods traveling aboard the ARGO II struggle to reach Greece in time. It doesn't help that they have a new prophecy that suggests horrifying prospects. Percy and Annabeth are stuck in Tartarus trying to find their way to the Doors of Death. Meanwhile a new force emerges from the pits… one that is most certainly on Gaias side.

At the conclusion of The Mark of Athena, Annabeth and Percy tumble into a pit leading straight to the Underworld. The other five demigods have to put aside their grief and follow Percy’s instructions to find the mortal side of the Doors of Death. If they can fight their way through the Gaea’s forces, and Percy and Annabeth can survive the House of Hades, then the Seven will be able to seal the Doors both sides and prevent the giants from raising Gaea. But, Leo wonders, if the Doors are sealed, how will Percy and Annabeth be able to escape? They have no choice. If the demigods don’t succeed, Gaea’s armies will never die. They have no time. In about a month, the Romans will march on Camp Half-Blood. The stakes are higher than ever in this adventure that dives into the depths of Tartarus.
