[After the events of Jail Break] Due to the crash landing of her ship, Peridot's gem becomes cracked. She is forced to retreat and find some means of shelter while she hides from her enemies. In the meantime, she meets a teenage boy named Ben, who soon teaches her that the humans may be worth fighting for after all.

Ben has severe difficulty dealing with the past. With Peridot gone, he is plagued by nightmares and fears he is losing his mind. He hopes that this can be fixed, and suppresses all the feelings he used to have for her, while trying to not live in fear of the other gems. Peridot knows what she is. She is a technician, a gem bred for accuracy and technical skill. She is not meant to show emotion, for that is weakness. What can she do when love is like going against everything she ever knew? The bond these two share, regardless of what they are, crosses a divide of old. Can they make the ultimate sacrifice for the Crystal Gems..and for each other?
