**Only the bonus chapter is paid, the rest of the story is (and will stay) free!!** Libby Marks-Whelan is decidedly not a lady. Five years ago, there was a cataclysmic event called the Explosion, that left almost everyone on earth dead. A majority of those that didn't die turned into Rotters: zombie like, deaf, dumb, and slightly blind rotting blood-thirsters who use their advanced sense of smell and speed to hunt their prey: us. It's simple, see a Rotter, don't get bitten, shove a bullet in its brain, decapitate it, you live. Camille has been living a strict lifestyle, being forced to toughen up and harden herself to others. When fate forces her to cross paths with arrogant, tough, alluring Caiden Pierce, she finds herself trying harder than usual to keep up her tough façade. She's stuck grasping onto everything she knows about surviving when Caiden bulldozes his way into her life, and possibly even into her heart.

Historical context: By the time the Powers had caged Napoleon Bonaparte (Boney) his armies had ravaged all Europe. Only little England remains unscathed but for her soldiers. Her citizens were only touched emotionally. Soldiers return to crowds of hero-worshipers. The younger brother of the guillotined Louis 16th is propped up on the throne of France vacated by the Emperor Napoleon. But the ogre's old Grande Armee chafes on the bit of idleness and King Louis's aristocrats pant for revenge. Story: Peacetime is no more tranquil than wartime for some families. The Darnleys are in debt. What is the solution? Their children must marry money. But while showing obedience, the siblings form their own ideas. Could the perfect partners fall for them? Could they fall for the perfect partners? Do perfect partners even exist? Politics refuses to bury the past. Covered intrigues and grudges must surface. Secrets decades old collide and rock foundations. Reputation and wealth is everything. War might return. Extract: "You are three-and-twenty and have been nine months in the army. You are inclined to kick up larks, gamble, game, bet, and flirt with actresses. You want taming. In a few words, you want a wife. Our house is on a financial precipice. Any gust of wind could push us onto the rocks below. We want wealth. Look about you at this season's debutants. Neglect the belles backstage. Look around you with a keen and serious eye. Before you have only inspected society beauties with a mind for dalliance. Now inspect them for the qualities that might suit you in a wife. I cannot dictate them. You are familiar with your own tastes. Let her be decent. Let her be comely and, above all, let her be wealthy." Completing this speech, Lord Darnley placed his fingertips together and awaited his son's response with a touch of his former anxiety.

An old, crumbling house stands on the English moors. Half a millennium old, and empty... yet it is not forgotten. Only one family has ever owned Idyllwilde House, but they are quite the family, spanning five centuries and somehow making it through the turbulent gales of history- but not without their scratches. Cecily unravels an Elizabethan mystery that threatens her life. Nicolas tries to keep his engagement in place during the English Civil War. As the Jacobite rebellions flourish, Mairi's beliefs are challenged in an English home. The American Revolution reaches into the family and shakes it to the core. Jonathan finds a chance at joy- but will his family let him take it? Tessa tries to find home in a family that is not her own. And finally, two cousins are tasked with seven child refugees during the London Blitz. The family will see more than their fair share of life. But that is life- to be to the fullest, and even the ordinaries can be extraordinary. Highest Ranking: #295 in Historical Fiction Rather than one novel, this is made up of several short stories, which span a few chapters each. The stories can be read in any order and will always be posted together. All characters- unless explicitly mentioned- are of my own invention.
