[BOOK TWO] "They speak of dreams as beautiful things. They are mistaken. All that beauty is a façade." With the kingdom finally free of Commander Vang's clutches and the towers abolished, everything seems to finally have been set right. Melody's coronation is to be held soon; the kingdom is in capable hands. Bird and her companions, meanwhile, journey to the sea as they finally set out for their home in the High North. But not all is right with the world. Terrible rumors of fire and magic begin to surface, and it isn't long before Bird realizes that she, and everyone she cares about, is in grave danger. The ghosts of her pasts are rising anew, and Bird must struggle with lies, heartbreak, and her love for a certain young wizard in order to keep her already damaged world from falling apart entirely.

Years after the original tale of Rapunzel took place, the kingdom--left to the grief-stricken Queen after her husband's death--is falling apart. People live in constant fear of the many terrible towers across the land, built by her Majesty's decree to imprison any who dare question her. Bird's nothing but a girl from the north, but when someone she cares about is taken by the mad Queen's soldiers, she'll stop at nothing to save them. With nothing but her friends, a sled, and a mind full of songs, she sets out to get rid of the towers, once and for all. DISCLAIMER: this is a retelling of the *ORIGINAL FAIRY TALE* by the Brothers Grimm and has no connection to Disney's version whatsoever. Eleven-year-old Raphael Dukehart and his adopted sister Zoe live on the outskirts of Sirah where rubble and disrepair are common sights. Life is dangerous here, a place where even the Colour teams charged to protect them fear to tread, yet it's their only choice. As a single parent, his mother barely has enough colour to sustain their small family, but Raph has a plan. He's going to get all three of them out of Sirah and start a better life somewhere the street lights stay on through the night.
