The loving yet heart breaking relationship between Veronica Mars and Logan Ehcolls has taken a huge break. Duncan and Veronica are happily together as Logan is left single and alone. What does Veronica do when Duncan isn't doing enough? What does logan feel everytime Veronica passes him by the morning after, hair messy, clothes wrinkled but a plastered smile across her face as the morning glow is overwhelming. Logan decides that's it time to take action.

This is sort of a Veronica Mars fanfic. I love the show and think it would be cool if there was a person in real life who was like Veronica. Writing a story doesn't make it real, but I thought this would be fun. The only references to Veronica Mars and other characters will be references to the show. My main character will seem like her, but I hope some differences are noticeable. Ember Thompson is a high school student with an interesting day job. Instead of flipping burgers or working a register like most teens she works for her dad at his private investigator's office. When one of her classmates is murdered and someone steps from the woodwork and confesses her dad wonders if the real killer has been found. Ember notices a slight discrepancy in the confessed killer's story and agrees with her dad. She utilizes all the skills she's learned as she sets out to find the real killer.

After Lilly Kane's murder, Veronica Mars' whole life falls apart. Her relationship with Lilly's brother Duncan ends abruptly. Her father frames Lilly's father for the murder, ruining her social life. Her father is let go from the position of Sheriff of Neptune, CA. In an effort to prove herself to her wealthy '09er friends from the fictional zip code 90909, Veronica attends Shelly Pomroy's '09er party. Her drink is spiked, and she wakes up in the morning in an empty bed and finds her underwear beside it. She makes the tough choice to stick up for her dad, and does the odd favor for his Private Investigation Agency, Mars Investigations, and her school acquaintances.

After having to once again leave Neptune to go back on active duty in the military, Logan is told this would the final time before he was stationed in a permanent position in San Diego. Again, Veronica is thrilled that Logan will be safe at home and out of harms way. A new case stirs up trouble for the new sheriff of Neptune, Marcia Langdon. However, when things take a turn for the worst, Veronica is met with challenges that even she might not be able to face.
