It was just him and just me, alone in this room, separated only by a table littered with Mambas. My favourite candy. Like he was a penguin presenting his chosen mate with an impressive pebble. This was so bizarre... Never in a million years did I see the mastermind L being interested in someone romantically- let alone ME of all people. "I don't understand. I'm not special. I'm not extraordinary. I'm not gifted, or a genius, or any of the things you are. I must be so unexciting to you." I wasn't trying to put myself down. It's just fact. He was so far above me in every way. I touched one of the Mambas with a fingertip, pushing it around on the table while I wrestled with my thoughts, feeling my brow furrow like never before.
