Wayward: Fetching Tales from a Year on the Road is a hilarious and heartfelt ride around the world, wherein the author eats dog, obsesses about chewing gum, gets stranded on an island, does dirty things, reveres rock n roll and muses about everything from death to Star Trek to the President Obama to jail time. Now available on Wattpad, Wayward has been a surprise hit at both iTunes and Amazon, reaching #1 on both retailers' travel charts. It chronicles a year in the life of the author, who lived in 12 countries over 12 months, one month at a time. It's kind of funny, kind of sad and kind of weird. Forbes describes the book: "Wayward isn’t strictly a travelogue or a guide by any means. The book reads like a diary, with chapters dedicated to everything from watching Obama’s inauguration in an Argentinian bar, to viewing a dubbed version of the newest Star Trek film in France and trying to understand the plot despite not speaking French, to remembering the ecstasy and pain of his first love just before breaking up with his then-boyfriend in Berlin, to eating dog in Vietnam, to his experience working with Patti Smith in New York. Gates’ lively, conversational writing style bring all the disparate pieces together for an engaging, enjoyable read."

A collection of poems written in the city. Written for city folk who don't quite belong. And for everyone else who fall in between the cracks of 'here' and 'there.'

Now, I've been hungover before. I've experienced the entire earthly spectrum of emotion that comes with the joys of drinking until you can't stand. I've seen, felt, smelt and heard things that upon reflection a sober human being wouldn't necessarily do. There was very little I couldn't chalk up to the consequences of my own actions whilst recovering from a particularly heavy night of partying. But as the stranger in front of me demanded me to stop, his entire appearance morphed into something vile. And I can honestly say that was a first for me. His eyes turned black like ink, his teeth extending to sharp points as dark veins began forming up his neck, crawling to join in a tangled web of visible webbing beneath his skin. The man I'd only a few minutes earlier considered attractive, had now become one of the vilest creatures I'd ever seen. Definitely not a crackhead. "Holy f*cking crap!" --- Danielle Perkins knows more than most about how truly unfair the world can be. After years of training and serving in the military, she is ultimately discharged from duty and settles down for civilian life in the bustling city of New York. A far cry from her terror filled past, it takes some time but she finally begins to get her life back together. That is until she's faced with a world that at no point was she ever trained for, and faced with a man that she was in no way ready for.

"Let's explore the world, man. First, we should go to the Himalayas," Ravi said as he was searching best spiritual places of India on his cell phone. "We're not going anywhere," Sid said sharply, his eyes narrowed in disbelief. "Isn't that what you want?" Ravi snapped, for him, Sid was such a killjoy. "The search for truth? That's how all yogis in the past began their journey. Off to the Himalayas for years, and boom, return like you're a God. Do you want peace or not?" Sid felt the question landed him on the horns of a dilemma. He did want to search the truth (the inner calling which he yearns to follow), but at the same time he knew it was impossible to cut off all his attachments. Hey, Mom! I'm going to the Himalayas, don't know when I will return. Life isn't this easy. A moment later, however, the reality hit him like a ball. It's true that most of the great spiritualists ended up in the Himalayas. ___________ Sid's life was ordinary like yours and mine, where you'd find no fantasy or fiction. But he was the possessor of extraordinary trait; he was looking for answers. Little did he know that we're living in a post-truth world. Some say it's an age where truth no longer matters. If you reason with people based on facts they'll explain away their beliefs by saying, "It's true to me and that's all that matters." Politicians spin the yarn of their agenda from time to time, media telecast news based on their political leanings. Social media has led us into an information war. Despite of above all harsh realities, Sid set himself off to find truth. A quest of self-discovery. How about you take this journey with Sid in which only love will reign supreme? It's just that you need to redefine the meaning of love.

During the first 30 years of my journalistic career in the second half of the 20th century, good jobs of all kinds were available all over Canada. Those of us born in the 1930s and early '40s were in great demand because our generation was very small when the post-World War II boom began. I earned generous fees working mainly freelance at home or in the offices of clients. "GLIMPSES..." is the story of all the stories my work involved: the who, what, when, where, why, and how of people I met, our society's attitudes, my networks, lessons learned, mistakes made, many good times and some very bad ones. I hope to reveal how it felt to be a Canadian worker from the 1950s until about 2000, to provide perspective on why those years were the way they were, and perhaps offer clues as to how they led us to Now. (Note that chapters become shorter as the tale grows longer.)
