A race of human beings with horrific ancestry, an Empire's conquest of a faraway island, a man's search for divinity. Here lies Gehenna, here lie the damned. ***This novel contains mentions of violence, murder, rape & suicide -- Reader Discretion Advised*** Author's Note: Growing up with shows like Supernatural and Black Butler, reading novels like Demian: The Story of Emil Sinclair's Youth, and most importantly reading the Bible the full way through, I've gotten extremely fascinated by the esoteric aspects of Christian mythology and Biblical lore. This story is inspired heavily by such Christian motifs and symbolism, specifically the Nephilim and the Book of Enoch. The setting of the story, rather than being the modern world, is instead the Age of Discovery. The reason being that, this era - the early 16th century, was a tumultous period when Christianity was spread via the early colonial Empires, and much of it involved horrific tales of the Inquisition and subjugation of conquered peoples. What better a place, then, for a novel inspired by Christian mythology than such a period? ----------------------------------------------------------- Highest Tag Rankings: 1st in #thought-provoking --- November 22nd, 2022 2nd in #cosmichorror --- September 30th, 2022 3rd in #lovecraftian --- September 8th, 2022 3rd in #biblical --- January 19th, 2023

When Teal helps an injured soldier by hand-delivering a scroll to the Emperor, he is offered a place in the Emperor's harem. Teal is of Lombock descent however, a cannibalistic race of beings who were believed to have died out. Having grown up on the outskirts of the Empire, Teal finds adjusting to life as the Emperor's concubine difficult, especially when he starts to fall for the Emperor's number one concubine instead. As he begins to learn about his origins, he also stumbles on old dark secrets; traitorous spies, unfinished disputes, and old enemies from neighboring kingdoms hide in plain sight within the palace walls, all threatening to ignite Teal's true identity and with it, cause the return of a race of beings who once controlled the world with horrific consequences. The only way out? A possible alliance with a defiant and strong-willed princess and a group of magical assassins who wish to control the world as they see fit. (Contains mature content) This story was inspired while reading the book "Emperor Dowager Cixi" by Jung Chang. Quite a bit of Ancient Roman politics also inspired/influenced me. WATTY'S 2022 SHORTLIST🏅A Qing Dynasty Snow White fairytale retelling with a Princess Mononoke twist. Featured on @Wattpad's Fantasy Adventures reading list and @WattpadExplorer. ***** Snow is anything but the submissive princess the Jade Palace expects her to be. Her foster mothers find her impossible, her royal tutor labels her incorrigible, and she recently threatened to shave her head if she were forced to marry. When the Empress presents her with an opportunity to go on the imperial spring hunt with the princes and her not-so-secret crush, Prince Erden, Snow jumps at the chance. Who knew that that would lead to an assassination attempt, a harrowing escape, and her getting hopelessly lost in a dark forest during a thunderstorm--with no survival skills whatsoever. The only things she has to help her survive are lots of moxie and latent magical powers she inherited from her deceased mother. Oh, and an ethereally white fox that led seven old dwarves to her. With the Empress's malicious intent now revealed, Snow must discover her true strength, who her mother really is, and what magical powers she wields, in order to find her way back to Erden. If she fails, she might never see him again and die a lonely old crone in the mountains. . . or get murdered anyway when the bloodthirsty Empress--said to have fantastical powers of her own--comes for Snow.
