But tragedy struck the family in their teens, and the remaining six drifted apart, avoiding contact with each other where they could help it. And Alec Hargreeves never expected to be back in his childhood home, especially not holding his brothers apart at his father's funeral, but nothing ever went the way he expected it to.

Sarcasm, a term which here means the use of irony to mock or convey a message, is a defining feature of The Umbrella Academy, shaping the dynamics and personalities of each of the Hargreeves. With their dysfunctional upbringing and superpowers, the superheros use sarcasm as a coping mechanism and a way to express their frustration, affection, and most importantly, rivalry. There was a certain air of rivalry between each member of the Academy, but they all dimmed in comparison to the competition Five and Y/N Hargreeves shared. From their upbringing all the way up to Five's disappearance, the constant bickering and struggle to outshine the other all led up to one moment. The Apocalypse. It was supposed to act as the end to everything, but it turned out to be the beginning of something new as Y/N and Five decided it was time to work together in order to find a solution to their impending doom; and potentially save the lives of billions. Time was essential, so in the 10 days they have, they can't waste their precious time on mindless arguments and futile aggravations. Esme Hargreeves or Number Eight was apart of The Umbrella Academy, she was probably the most powerful of the eight "siblings", but would only ever mention it to get under Luther's skin. You could always find her by Five's side and him by hers, know one had ever seen two people so in love, they were made for each other. He motivated her to be stronger and smarter, and she was the only one that could make him seem soft and kind. When he disappeared he took apart of her soul with him, she was never the same. The only thing that kept him going in the apocalypse was the thought of seeing her again. He finally does return to Esme but they have a new problem. They have eight days to save the world. I don't own anything from The Umbrella Academy, I only own Esme.

In any case where the Umbrella Academy may be compromised or their identities unveiled, Reginald Hargreeves wanted at least one (minus Vanya) to have fully sound security of ever being recognized or discovered: Max, with his shifting ability, had been the perfect option. After a bit of time for working at the Commission Léonie has a mission to help support a particular time traveler, Five. They spent 19 years together in post apocalypse before the Handler comes back to get Léonie and leaves Five alone. Years later in 2019, Léonie decided to go to New York and help the Hargreaves family out on stopping the apocalypse, or to at least save them. But he didn't expect little Five to be there; the funny thing was that while attempting to shift into his younger self under the Handlers commands, he got stuck in his younger body and unable to become his older self again.
