To the readers of this story, Ever wondered of the Old World united as one Empire? Ever thought of a utopia that once existed before? If that were history, then it's only pure fiction. But I write in the name of ideals, I write to give glory and praise to Truth and Justice, to Freedom, to Friendship, to Unity, to Hope and to Love. I write of old ideals, the Way of Ancients and Heroes alike. But above all, I write for my belief in God, who gives me great strength in writing my thoughts in paper. I desire to inspire the minds who require it so. The past we shall explore, the past we shall see with our eyes. Look further with the eyes of faith the real message behind the exploits of a man who never existed except in the minds and hearts of every person who desire to believe he would, in this or his or any era. The hopes and dreams of idealists are embodied in this well-known, desirable yet mysterious and humbling individual. Now let us see where his own dreams take us, to the world he loved more than himself, to the world he wanted to change for the better. ML Vincent Reyes ALL RIGHTS RESERVED @2014 MLVINCENTREYES

Love exists but does not show. Concealed perpetual until lost and revealed forever when regained in full glory. Alas, none be the most adept in handling such fragility, the most precious of earthly and heavenly gifts. For many brave souls dare to venture into the deepest depth fathomable, deeper than even the wellspring of emotion that is the human heart. Mortal eyes dare not gaze into the black abyss of nothingness without knowing what has been emptied from them. There are fewer worries in this world that stun the human imagination greatly than that of a future uncertain. Carved out of despised arrogance is the foresight to plan for every possible outcome, never knowing there are very few probabilities that all ends meet in one spot. Tomorrow is the dreadful, sorrowful yet lovely promise of a new dawn to rise from the ashes of today's suffering. Hope is most present in the desire that when tomorrow comes, what it brings will surely make all that is lost and broken, even a discarded heart, renewed.

"You know you can't hide from me, Miriska. No matter how many guards your father may assign to you, it won't be enough, I will breach every defense and retaliate every attack and I WILL have you in my arms, for the rest of eternity," the voice was a soft but menacing whisper hidden in the blackest of shadows. "Who are you?" "You will get to know me soon enough, my love. Worry not," the words came so suddenly, they startled me. "Where are you?" I shouted to the trees. I froze when I felt ice cold lips on the skin of my neck. "Closer than you think." ~ Notes. Disappearances. A stalker or two. Miriska Valentine feels unsafe and watched and she is. Why?

Often when I am asked about my new novel, ‘The Headmaster’s Wager’, I am asked about my memories of my late grandfather. This does not surprise me. After all, I have written a book in which the protagonist, Percival Chen, shares many characteristics with my grandfather. Percival is the headmaster of an English school in wartime Vietnam, as was my grandfather. Percival lives most of his adult life in Vietnam but is ethnically Chinese, and this is crucial to his sense of identity. In addition to being a successful educator and entrepreneur, he is a gambler, drinker, and womanizer. All of these qualities in Percival are inspired by my grandfather. I choose that word carefully – inspired. The book is a work of fiction, and is not ‘based upon’ my grandfather’s life. It does not memorialize him or recount his actions or memories. Instead, it picks up on a thread of his life, and an era he experienced.
