My Creative Writing teacher told me awhile ago that my writings, especially my poetry, were dark. As in cryptic or sinister in nature. I thought to myself "That's strange" because I never thought of my writings as dark and sinister. So I reread some of my poems and I saw what he was seeing. He gave us an assignment shortly there after on "What is Poetry". So I wrote on how poetry was a mask or a veil. You couldn't see behind this veil unless you were really looking. I wrote "Poetry is the light behind a veil of darkness". When you read my poems dont look at the veil... look at what's underneath it...
