This is the first part of our How To Write shinanigans and it's going to be exactly what it says- a simple step by step helper about how to start a story for beginner writers who need an extra push to get where they're going. We're not saying that this is the only way to write a story. We're saying that this is basically how we do it and that's really the only way we can help people, by telling you how we do it. Why do we write? I write because words drive me crazy if I don't. At times, I am physically compelled to grab a pen and jot down my thoughts on paper. I write because it allows me to express my thoughts in a skilful way. I write to be the characters I am not. I write because I have to. It's simple. The advice you will find here follows the Chicago Manual of Style which is widely used by American publishers.
