Dan was never good with people. Maybe his homeschool education contributed to that. Unfortunately for Dan this summer his mother decided he needed more friends. Sent off to a quaint posh school full of boys Dan decides he is most definitely not good with people.

Phil doesn't have a best friend in his life. That is, until Dan turns up at his school. They become close and Phil finds out that Dan has a twin brother, but hates to talk about him. It's not until Phil comes over to Dan's house that he finds out why.

One day, Dan meets a girl at a bar. He likes her a lot, and so he asks her for her number. She gives it to him, no problem. When he texts her the next day, he finds out that she, indeed, gave him a fake number. But who knew something good could come out of it? Dan: Kaylie? Unknown Number: sorry, dude. fake number, I guess.

Dan Howell is just a boy in his school; nothing more, but he's seen as less, and feels like less, until one day there's a new kid in town; Phil Lester. And what are the odds that Dan might talk to Phil? Slim. But of course, Phil ends up sitting next to Dan, starting something without knowing; an unbreakable friendship, an unbelievable story.
