Ally has never had friends. Ally has never had parents who really cared for her. Ally has never had a peaceful day at school. She is anorexic, though she has never had it treated. She has horrible times of depression though she always just puts on a fake smile. She goes through phases of cutting, but she just pulls down her shirt sleeves and pulls up the sides of her pants to hide the cuts on her wrists and hips. Will she ever get better?

Her mother is embarrassed of her. Her father doesn't care about her. The rest of her family thinks she's a bad influence on the little ones. Society thinks she's a freak. She gets bullied at school for what she wears and listening to the wrong kind of music. Out of all this her best friend still thinks she's perfect, inside and out. She wants to get away from all the judgmental eyes and she's knows the perfect way. Suicide. She'll never commit it and leave him to defend for himself even though he says he'll be fine. But once she gets pushed over the edge, she goes as far as faking her suicide, with the help of her best friend. Jess and Ronnie have finally escaped judgmental Ohio and eloped to Rhode Island. When seventeen-year-old Lydia Good ends up getting drunk at a party and performs the biggest prank of her lifetime, her parents aren't too happy. With the Mayor threatening to press charges and refusing to take her fathers offer, her parents decide the best thing for Lydia to do is give back to the town and show everyone that she’s as good as her last name implies. Volunteering to answer calls for the Suicide Hotline is depressing in itself. If she’s not getting calls about people threatening to jump off buildings, or wanting to talk about their multiple problems, then it’s immature boys prank calling for kicks and giggles. When one night a call comes in from a guy saying he’s thinking about ending his life, Lydia doesn't know if it’s a joke or not. But when the boy calls back every single night at the same time, Lydia spends hours upon hours trying to decipher the guy behind the call. Because what’s worse than falling for a guy you don’t even know? Falling for a guy too lost to even love you back.

A young woman who was always the life of the party, quick to tell a joke, always smiling and happy, tragically dies at age 23. What her mother found after her death reflected a much different young woman, her poetry. Her words showed a young woman crying out to feel loved, wanted, beautiful and worthy. Struggling to accept herself as the wonderful, happy, beautiful young woman everyone else saw her as. Her words reflect the pain and torment she allowed another to cause her. It is her mother's most heart felt desire to reach even one young person struggling to accept themselves. To encourage them to open up and talk to someone, to know they are never alone, to know their feelings are validated. She also hopes to reach a mother that perhaps feels her daughter is perfect and completely in charge of her life, as mothers often do. After reading her poetry, hopefully it will facilitate conversation, confirm unconditional love and help to end words that a mother never hears. I am her mother and these are her words.

Lilly Martin is not model-material, but Adam Hiller is, and it turns out he likes to wear dresses when nobody's looking, and is in fact not a 'he' at all. When their school announces a fashion designing competition, Lilly decides to kill two (or three) birds with one stone and: 1) Win the fashion competition by making the best dress Edgley High has ever seen. 2) Help Adam (who prefers Eve, thank you very much) come out as the girl she is. 3) Annoy the bigots.
