On my first day of high school, they tested our abilities-they wanted to see who would outlast the others, and who would be outlasted. For hours and hours, we gave it all we had. When they came back into the room to give us our scores, we were put into two groups: the ones to be trained as infiltrative spies, and the others to be trained as assassins. I was picked to be an assassin, and later, when the members of my group turned to face the man who would mentor us, I watched as a slow, wicked smirk spread across his face. He looked at us, and he said, "Game on." This man was Shawn Masterson, and this man was a murderer.

*This is a sequel to Toy Soldiers* It didn't surprise me when I got caught by a third party while I was on the run. They tied me up and put a hood over my head; I lost my sense of direction somewhere along the way. When we reached our destination, it was very cold. They held me a hundred feet up above a sparkling blue ocean, covered in frost, and they asked me who I was. At first, I had nothing to say. And then I smiled, and I told them, "My name is Caitie Alastair, and I'm going to watch the world burn." They pushed me off the edge, and I fell through the frigid air, falling toward thin ice, thinking about a boy I once knew. And then the world went cold.

Confronted with the nightmares of her past, Rena's battle starts all over again. Yet, on the other side of the country, another woman is fighting her own wars. On the surface, Charlotte Parks is just one of Ryan's many minions but deep down, she holds a secret that could be the key to Rena's redemption. When Rena meets Brent, he is a dream come true. He is a real gentleman, funny, caring and even her overly protective father likes him. But then, she discovers a different side of Brent - a violent side that scares her. Promising that this had been a one time slip up, she forgives him. After all, he is the love of her life. She dosn't see the signs -- the controlling, the alienation from her friends and dad, the obsession he has with her. She is like putty in his hands. Over time, she learns about the Cycle of Abuse the hard way and she even tries to break free. But in the end, she only sees one way out and it will likely cost her everything. Best Ranking: #2 in ChickLit Winner of the 1st Corner Booth contest Authors Note: This is a story about domestic violence and can be disturbing at times. Even though the people in this book are fictional, abuse at the hands of a loved one is real. It is something that can happen to any of us, even to teenagers like Rena. Please do not read this book if you find this topic disturbing. It is not designed to upset anyone but to raise awareness.
