"I will wait, dear. A Patient of Eternity, my crush. A universal still, no rust." ... Charlotte has always had a rather morbid obsession with death. After losing her father at a tender age, and her mother some years later, Charlotte is left all alone in the world with no one to depend on. That is, until she meets the Undertaker, the man who deals with death as though it is the most beautiful part of life. Under his tuition, she begins to learn the secrets of his dark trade -- and in turn, also begins to question whether or not the man she is slowly falling in love with is entirely human... Not everyone's the hero of the story. Not everyone can rise to the top. Because those who stand at the peak as the elite require many more to fade away so they may acquire a mound of bodies that they can climb to get there. And the knowledge of it doesn't make it hurt any less. ••• 3rd Place in the General Naruto Category of the Naruto Watty Awards, 2016.

"It's closed for a reason, you know." Kitamura Rui has heard the rumors. Everyone has. The mysterious ward that borders on the edge of one's thoughts, ever-present, deliciously strange and forbidden like the fruit of legend. But she's not insane enough to venture into the heart of that ward no matter how stronger her conviction is to bring the truth to light. Her mentor, Ikehara Kaori - well, she's a different breed of journalist entirely. When Kaori goes missing, Rui scrambles to pick up the pieces and follow her mentor's trail, even if it leads her back to the Closed Ward - even if it endangers her life. Because if Kaori has taught her anything, it's that she should never leave a story unfinished, despite the risks, despite the carnage. That's what it means to stake your livelihood on exposing the truth. || Based on the original idea @SkywardSerenade came up with! Thank you so much for letting me work with this story! I really hate old people, like, more than I hate mushrooms. They're shifty and very misleading. An elderly person can look at you with a kind smile and warm eyes, but underneath, they're scheming and conniving and can make you agree to things before you even realise what the hell happened. I really wasn't ready for this... After making a promise to try and find her family, Kida travels to the Hidden Leaf Village in search of her father. You can probably guess from the picture who the father is, and lets just say, their meeting did not go as planned...
