"I don't think I can do it," Alexa stammered, sitting with her knees pulled up to her chest in the back stairwell of the school, the same one she had learned her secret three years before. "I cannot possibly survive this." "They can't do anything to you, Alexa," Travis assured. Sounds of despair and destruction could be heard from above and below. "As long as you prove that you are the same, powerful student the administration has thought you to be all these years, you can beat them. You can survive." "And what if I can't, Travis? What if I end up proving that everything I have achieved here is a lie? I could die here, today." She added the last bit in a whisper. "Then you will still be able to show what I and all the others who are here to support you have known all along." Travis grabbed ahold of Alexa's hand. She looked up at him with tear-filled eyes. "That you are a fighter."

“You can’t tell anyone,” she begged. “Please. You just can’t.” “Your secret is safe with me.” Travis assured. Alexa’s eyes popped open in shock. “That is, as long as you leave me alone. No more following me, trying to speak to me, or even looking at me. I refuse to be associated with someone like you. Those kinds of relationships are what get people killed, you know.” As much as she hated Travis now, Alexa didn’t want him dead. She never thought of her living being the cause of someone’s death until this moment. Hell, she didn’t even know her fourteen years had been a crime. “Fine. Deal. Whatever. But if this gets out I know exactly who to turn to.” “You’ll be imprisoned before you can get to me.”
