What would you do if over three quarters of the population was gone in the blink of an eye? That's what fifty humans are asking themselves, as one day in 2115 they wake up with everyone they knew and loved gone for good. From there, things only get worse. An alien species, known as subhuman, takes over the planet, against the will of the hybrids. Sure, they seem friendly, but five of the fifty hybrids soon learn otherwise. A hundred and fifty years from now, parents will give up their children to the government at birth. This is due to mandatory DNA scanning that will determine every detail of the child: personality, talents, weaknesses, eye and hair color, and any disabilities. Parents then "shop" for the type of child they want. After they purchase their child, they raise that child as their own. The children that are not chosen by the age of three are deemed "the forgotten" and sentenced to a life of servitude to the government. This has been the way of the world for one hundred years. Fifteen year old Eris-6-11 is one of the Forgotten. Her life changes forever when she gets a chance to leave the Compound forever. Best Science Fiction rank: 75

"Perfectly happy in our tertiary star system, its thirteen life sustaining worlds more than sufficient to house our modest population of almost eighty billion, we thought we were untouchable. Then they came. Humans. They looked like us, walked like us and the technology they possessed allowed them to talk like us. That is where the similarities ended. Never have such a brutal, bastard race existed and it is the sincerest hope of myself and every single surviving member of my species that never will such a race exist again." Star Clash

Four unmarked survivors. One totalitarian government. A fight to keep their humanity intact. 100 years into the future, the E-91 virus has thrust the world into chaos. For Rachel Wilson, survival hasn't come easy. For the last fifteen years, she's lived in the wilderness, just out of reach of the Council of Nations. Until one day, poachers--the section of law enforcement tasked with hunting the Unmarked--raid her home and she is forced to go on the run. Weary from the attack, but certainly not broken, she ventures into a dangerous world with only her fiery determination to survive. In what appears to be a stroke of good luck, she is rescued by an underground movement working towards bringing down the capital or die trying. Death over mark, that had always been the mantra. Because the alternative-becoming a mind-controlled soldier to fight the capital's war-was a fate worse than death. ***What other readers are saying about Marked*** "You've done a wonderful job of creating and molding this couple into real people. Now, they practically breathe!" -thebirdwhisperer "This is incredible! I was holding my breath for a second there because everything was so good and the action felt so rea!!!" -titanic123 "I rarely comment as I'm not very good with words. But I have to tell you I enjoyed your book so much. I cried and laughed, bit my nails and rooted the characters on as if they were my family." -leenafrog

With no memory of who they were before, and with the universe bursting violently to life around them, they must work together to survive and to get home - wherever that may be. Because the longer they stay in this dark new world, the harder it is to do so. © 2015 by shayebay This novel is entirely a work of fiction.
