A single glistening, clear trickle of a tear trickled down my face. I pressed my hand to Jacob's cheek, imagining my mother's face. I imagined her brushing my hair, stroking my cheek, hugging me, hunting with me, and most of all, her face when she sat me on Jacob's back , telling me, 'More than my own life'. I imagined the black mass of the Volturi with a surge of fury, and I was blinded by red. Jacob buried his nose in my hair, and I took my hand of his cheek. The tears started as I flung my arms around Jake's neck. His fur muffled my sobs and he got on his paws and set of again, me on his back. The soft thud of his paws resounded in the empty forest, and the heavy ring of despair that hung around us, wolf and hybrid both.
