Princess Gwynn is the daughter of the king of Medlin, and heir to the throne. Her kingdom is in the midst of a great war with the kingdom Dhanishta, and she is caught in the middle when her father sets her up for an arranged marriage with Lord Ishmael, a terrible man with no morals. She is set up in order to ally two great countries, but, terrified, Gwynn runs away, disguises herself, and decides to fight in the King's army. She is succesful at first, but her plans are spoiled when she her ship is sank and she is captured by pirates.
