Long ago in ancient Japan there was a fox spirit that had the ability to turn into a human form. The fox lived in a shrine where humans came around all the time. He took advantage of that and was always in human form talking and laughing with humans. He grew to love humans. His persona started changing into a human persona without him realizing. His youkai friends worried about him everyday to the point where they couldn't take it anymore. "Fox, You are a youkai! Stop hanging around humans!" the youkai told him. Ignoring them, the fox continued to associate hiself with humans. The youkai couldn't take it anymore. They tricked a priestess into making a barrier spell around the shrine, so humans wouldn't go anywhere near it. When the fox realized that humans weren't coming anymore, he got depressed enough to go into a deep slumber. As the fox continued to slumber, the years went on. The people forgot as the forest grew around it, isolating it.Modern Japan is where our story begins.
