"So you don't care if I spend the rest of my life jumping from one girl's bed to another?" he asked turning to me. I looked at him, feeling the tears wanting to fall down my cheeks but I swallowed them down. "Of course not, you mean a lot to me. You're like my brother. I would want to see you settle down with a girl when the time comes" "Brother... there's that word" he whispered bitterly. "What's wrong with the word?" "Is that all I'll ever be to you? A brother" he spat out the word like it was a disease. I shrugged. "Is it too bad that I actually want to be more Najma?" ************************** It's finally Summer and Najma Barde is more than happy to be back home, planning on having a peaceful holiday... cue in members of the Arewa Heartbreakers Association and a school enemy... this summer was going to be anything but peaceful.

Different cultures, had imposed different expectations on their children especially girls in my immediate society, Hausaland. Here girls have to battle with the choice of either being westernised or culturized, which indeed isn't an easy choice for them. In this book, i am presenting a story about how the expectataions held by a society defines the roles of it's member, whether for good or bad. One thing i had kept in mind while writing this book is the sad fact that for generations my society had imposed some certain codes of behaviour for it's female members to follow which time and enlightenment, had managed to currupt for the better. Example of this, is in the challenging journey and personal transformation of the character in this book, Muna. It's a work which illuminates a path through which others can expand their consciousness, and chart the course for a future of enlightenment.
