Quand elle arrive chez son père et qu'elle vit qu'il avait changé et qu'il n'était plus pareil et quand il lui annonce qu'il n'avait pas encore de lycée pour elle et qu'elle allait devoir travailler dans une supérette au bout de sa rue, pour qu'elle est de l'argent de côté et comprit qu'elle n'aurait jamais dû faire ça et qu'elle aurait dû écouter sa mère. À son arrivé à Seattle, tôt le matin, elle voulu se coucher après ce que son père lui avait annoncé. En fermant les volets, elle vit un groupe de trois adolescents qui avaient sûrement son âge. L'un des garçons, au cheveux roux et bouclé, grand avec un skateboard sous le bras attira son attention. Peut-être un peu trop son attention, elle se demandait où il habitait et si il habitait dans la rue de son père.
