So close I could smell the cinnamon and peppermint oils he wore, see the fleck of dust resting in his dark eyelashes, hear his soft and oddly calm breaths leaving his chest. "What am I?" I finally whispered, hoping he would back away from me. Silas straightened and gave me that crooked, evil grin that I had come to know too well in too little time.
