Writing help from an English/Creative Writing major. This is practically a free writing class. It's full of useful writing tips and tricks that I've picked up in my writing career/common mistakes found while editing others' work. I hope you can find use out of this. I add to it every time I think of something else that beginners would find useful. These are in no particular order, so feel free to refer to the Table of Contents to skip to a topic that you're interested in. **I am currently working on rewriting and editing this into a real book, which I'll publish on Amazon** PS: I am rarely ever on Wattpad, so if you message me, I'm very unlikely to answer. I'm not ignoring you; I'm just not on here anymore. Please vote for this so more people will see it and be able to use this! Also, if you have any questions about writing, comment or message me and I'll help. I'll also add chapters at your request. If there's a particular aspect of writing you'd like advice on, I'll post it. It's marked as completed, but I add to it when I think of something else. "YOUR BOOK HELPED ME A LOT!!! THIS IS THE BEST BOOK FOR NEW WRITERS THAT I HAVE ENCOUNTERED ON WATTPAD" -dpe281 "This helps so much!! ^^ thank you thank you thank you!!" -Just_Katyftw "this was so useful thank you!" -Galaxysfaraway "That's so helpful! Thank you! :) " -fandomsmember Best Rating Yet: #2 in non-fiction!

Welcome to the Wattpad Writing Great Fiction introduction! You can browse through the chapters and use them as a reference when needed, or you can treat this like a class in writing fiction. There are assignments you can do, but don't worry, there aren't any due dates. There are lectures, but you don't have to take notes and there are no tests. But, if you work through it, if you do the assignments and think about how the lessons can apply to your writing, if you really push yourself, we guarantee that your writing will improve. With just a little bit of effort, you will feel more confident and your readers will see it in your work. You'll learn more about how to structure your stories, how to write great sentences that pull readers in and how to write characters that people will relate to and want to follow. A note on how this book is organized: The first eight chapters are devoted to the fundamentals you need to know to be able to craft stories that will draw readers in. The next seven chapters focus on different ways of planning and crafting your story, and after that we go over a variety of things including style and common story problems. So, jump in with us! Explore the craft of writing, work on the homework, try some of our contests and meet other writers who want to push themselves! We all look forward to reading your work and helping you become the writer you want to be. -The Ambassadors on the Improve Your Writing team. This instructional book is primarily written by Bruce Elgin, Wattpad Ambassador and 2014 Watty Winner. He has his Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing and has taught writing for years. Other experienced writers will help cover a wide range of topics to help give you the best instruction possible.

The advice you will find here follows the Chicago Manual of Style which is widely used by American publishers. There are some variances in style from country to country (and even from American publisher to American publisher.) **It may be easier to search the Table of Contents, as there is no rhyme or reason right now to chapter order.**

There are hundreds of fantastic books about writing for hopeful authors to choose from, but most of them are boring, complicated, and bogged down by filler. This little book is brief, straight forward, and easy to understand. I hope it will serve as an easy-to-read manual to help serious writers perfect their craft. I should say right off the bat that I am NOT an expert; I forget my own tips all the time! However, I do know what generally works for me, so I thought I could pass it on to my friends at Wattpad. One last note: this book is for writers who have a basic understanding of grammar and story structure. If you’re interested in more fundamental steps you can take to write a great story, check out the companion to this book!

Welcome Wattpadders! This book will be short and to the point. I won’t bore you with mundane grammar rules or the crap you learn in English class, but I will offer simple suggestions on how to improve your writing. These are tips that I use every day when I sit down to write. Nothing fancy, just the basics. I can’t promise that your “hotness” will go up, but I can guarantee that you’ll be a step above the people who don’t implement these techniques. Also, I encourage you to link to this book when commenting on other’s work. Sometimes it can be draining typing out the same suggestions over and over. I’m not trying to gain votes or comments with this book, I’m just here to provide budding writers with simple methods to hone their skills. So, with that brief introduction out of the way, let’s figure out how to improve your stories on Wattpad!
