Cast out of the tower where she's been locked up her whole life, Ivy is suddenly all alone in the desert with nothing to call her own, not even her name. Starvation seems inevitable until Leon, a chivalrous merchant comes along to bring her to a city she's never heard of before. From there, life could be perfect were Ivy not still caught up on the secret love affair she harbored in her tower, the one thing that seemed to keep her going, through days of misery. And so begins a whirlwind of adventures. In her quest to find her love, Ivy encounters a family of dwarfs, a beached mermaid, a small town fairy, and all manner of things she could never have dreamed of. Most importantly, she begins to discover who she truly is and what is really means to love. -- ***Winner of the FairytaleCommunity Mix-Up Novel Contest*** Started 5/29/16 - Completed 2/12/17 #56 Fantasy 2/5/17 Cover made by @Pennywithaney

I live by my rules. Rule #1: No dating clients. The reasons being it makes things complicated, I don't date (see rule 4), and most of my clients are rich douche bags or old enough to be my grandfather. Rule #2: Do not draw attention to yourself. You cannot be seen. You need to be invisible. Which means no photos of yourself under any circumstances. Rule #3: Bringing up the past is a big NO. The old you no longer exists. Rule #4: No dating, simply because you have terrible taste in men and relationships always end with someone getting hurt. Life was simple with the rules. Life was safe with these rules. Sure I was a little unhappy here and there but I got something a lot of people in this world don't, a second chance. My new life in L.A. was a fresh start. Then one day I had the pleasure of running into the egotistical Ryson Lábel. As our friendship grew I found myself breaking one rule after another until eventually I began to fall. He made me believe that I no longer needed to Hide Away. Silly me believing that I could ever have a happy ending. Note: Images used are not mine unless I specify they are. I sat behind the couch, scrunched in a fetal position, hiding from the sliver of sun which managed to squeeze its way out from behind the drapes. My tormentor. Once a beloved friend, now it holds me captive behind this couch with nothing to keep me company but some cobwebs and fuzzy dust-bunnies. My newly improved eyes spotted a small, dark colored circular disk amongst the shag carpet. Slowly I eased my way over to it. Score! It's a brown M&M. Popping the tiny sweet treat into my mouth, I carefully chewed...trying not to puncture my lips with my freshly acquired fangs. I smiled. Today is looking up.

When the latest technology in gaming is launched, that of which had only been heard of in science fiction novels before, gamers from all over are jumping at the chance to play. Maybe those novels telling of players being trapped that had become somewhat cliche were something of a warning as most science fiction is meant to be. Land of Shadows was the first virtual reality massive multiplayer roleplaying game released to the public, and Towa VRGames, its creator, was thrilled to have so many people lined up to play the game. After allowing 10,000 beta testers to test the game, it was ready for action and released, but soon after... everything went wrong. Beta tester Taro Kagemune was no ordinary player. Besides being a beta tester, she was the head of her large family and a company spanning more industries than most could ever think of doing successfully. After graduating university in her mid teens and medical school at around twenty, she was ready for a bit of experimentation to spread her family business into the gaming industry, and what better way than to start with the cutting edge? She took the dive with the oldest of her two younger brothers, followed by much of her family, on that fateful day. What happened would make her wonder if she was really as great as she was made out to be. Can she keep going the way she had been without any help? Taro has lived as a shadow for most of her life because she was taught that friends were of little worth a shadow was the most loyal friend, but what is a shadow without a light? Can she find a light to shadow or will the shadow fall to ruin and meld into the darkness in a land where shadows are the only tangible objects?
