Brielle loves her boyfriend.
She loves Elijah in the way you love someone you've already chosen - deeply, patiently, and with the expectation that love will eventually meet you where you are. For a long time, she believes it will. When it doesn't, she tells herself she's asking for too much, that love isn't supposed to feel loud all the time.
Still, something is missing.
Elijah cares for her, but not in the ways she needs. He assumes the relationship is fine, while Brielle slowly learns how to carry her disappointment quietly. She stays. She adjusts. She keeps loving him anyway.
When the weight becomes too heavy, Brielle does not go looking for escape. She goes looking for understanding.
She finds it in Psalms-Elijah's closest friend.
Psalms pays attention in ways Elijah doesn't think to. He notices when Brielle goes quiet. He asks questions and waits for the answer. Being around him feels easier, and Brielle doesn't realize how much she's been holding in until she doesn't have to.
By the time Brielle realizes how deeps she gotten it was already too late. She finds herself caught between the man who she loves and the man with a few missing screws that makes her feel loved.
