The abuse he has suffered for years was pumped up a notch after yet another attempt at getting Dumbledore to let him stay at Hogwarts, which he yet again refused, and when a young basilisk crosses his path, Harry's life might have just taken a turn for the better. Years of betrayal and suffering have been given the chance to be returned, but that doesn't solve everything.
