The gates were closed, which was surprising. There were people coming in and out every few minutes, weren't there? It would have made more sense just to leave them open. Maybe it was a security thing. I gave up the thought and started looking for something that would open the gates. Finally I found a black box, which I hesitantly spoke into. "I'm here for the ball," I said. They were my first words in a few hours. I wasn't a fan of talking to strangers, which meant that my voice had gone unused for most of the night. The box crackled into commission. "The ball?" The person on the other end of the line chuckled and the gates stayed shut. "The ball started about twelve hours ago and ended eight or nine hours after that. Everyone already left." The sound turned back into a fuzzy static. "A few hours ago? What?" *** I wasn't even supposed to be at the ball to begin with. It should have been Char. But Lanelle Taylor had forbidden her to attend, and Char had insisted that I go in her place. And now I was late to the ball- twelve hours late- and had broken Mom's necklace. And probably my ankle. And Char's dress. Was it even possible to break a dress? If it was, I had definitely done it. So far the night was going wonderfully.

Some tips and tricks I've learned over the past 3(ish) years on this weird little website. Just because they worked for me doesn't mean they'll work for you, but I figured I'd put this out there anyway. Read it if you want, and please share things that have helped you! And yes, I made wattpad a verb in the title. Fight me.

{Sequel to Elisabeth Marie} "There are SEVEN of you?" I asked again, not really believing. "Yeah," he replied, grinning. "You got a problem with that?" *** A little over a year ago, I didn't dare to dream of going outside. I certainly never would have thought that I would end up in a city that I knew virtually nothing about and absolutely no one, a complete stranger. Yet here I was. *Formerly titled 'Who's the Fairest'?* ******************** Copyright © 2015 by Holly Ruth || Hollyruth All rights reserved. I looked down at the cars on the road and the people way down on the sidewalk. They looked like they were having fun.... I mentally slapped myself. "No," I said aloud. "You like it up here," I told myself, trying to smother the little spark inside of me that I knew wanted to just jump right off the balcony. __________________________________________________________ According to Mother, the only time that I ever left this apartment was when I was born in a hospital a few blocks away.
