"When she sees me, the woman shrieks. Doors open in time to see her fall to the ground, screams splitting the air as her severed neck parts in a spluttering trail of blood. I grip my katanas carefully, white gloves on white hilts, staring down the length of my twin swords at the people sprinting away from me." There were five of them, in the beginning. Five children who grew up and became masters of ninjutsu. Five teenagers who traveled the globe before being killed by an international mercenary called Compass. But even when you're dead, Compass doesn't let you rest. Sequel to The Razed City, #10 in Action Mature for violence, death and abuse

"'They have no idea. What... you can do.' Ave walks over to the man, stepping on the fingers of the waiters around us, and puts her heeled foot gently on his injury. 'Who doesn't know what?' He moans. His face is ashy white, turning pale under the outflow of blood. 'Compass. You weren't supposed to... turn out like this...'" For ten years, five students have been training together, studying the art of ninjutsu. For years they've been learning under a masterful Sensei, honing their skills and shaping their bodies into powerful weapons. For years, they've been under the protection of a secret organization called Compass. But now, that's changing... Travel across the globe and meet evil waiters in Taiwan, gunmen in Mongolia, and the international police in France. Laced with action and plot twists, humor and mystery, the first book in Lessons Learned From Ninja is a gripping page turner that will leave you breathless. #10 in Action Mature for violence, death and abuse

Rights and responsibilities is the 2014 theme of National History Day Contest, a broad topic. And I chose to write a just as broad topic of human rights. What are human rights? Is it to prove we're human? Prove that we're humans are right? Or to tell us apart from aliens? Though, now that I think of it, all extraterrestrial beings should have rights as well, but let's just have the Men in Black deal with that- But before getting off of topic, let's focus back on this. As you read about this, think about these questions (not the alien one, unless you want to). Think about what it takes to not only be human, to act like one too. And after you read this, think to yourself. Do you have the right to be human? This essay won first place for the 2014 National History Day essay contest in California.

Can a natural killer learn to be human again? Regan's unique talent for murder makes her a perfect assassin. After a lethal encounter leaves her broken body washed up on a beach, she finds herself adopted by a group of teenage bodyguards. She doesn't intend to stay for long, but soon Regan finds herself faced with a choice: become a hero or stay a villain? *** The boy played with the flat brim of the cap in his hands and looked around the room. He sat back in his chair, trying to look casual, but the heel of his hi-top sneaker drummed rapidly on the concrete floor. Regan sat opposite him with her legs crossed and her hands folded on her tartan skirt. She watched him without a word and brushed a strand of blue-dyed hair behind her ear. Somehow this seemed to unsettle him more. 'Calm down,' she said. 'It's just murder.' *** Author's Note: Darkness Girl: Trickster God is represented by Louise Fury from The Bent Agency. P.S. The epic cover was made by Paul Kopetko (you can stalk him at paulkopetko.com). Enjoy!

Plan A might have been just as dangerous as the police insisted it was safe. It involved being locked away, out of sight and communication, and didn't solve the problem that Fran's stalkers seemed to have access to police files and data. Plan B the police didn't know about, and while the stalkers were at least temporarily out of the picture, it posed other problems. The police are now searching for her. Her stalkers are still looking for her. Her roommate doesn't know she's not a boy and a depressed teen movie star wants to be her friend. Being found out would blow her safety. Not to mention that the country thinks she might just be the victim -- or the cause -- of a spate of murders in the surrounding towns. Going to Darkwood private school was a risk, but not as risky as Plan A. The worry of trying to keep herself hidden from her schoolmates might become her main problem, but it still doesn't answer the most worrying question of all: just who were those stalkers, and what did they want? -- (Just so you all know, I've entered this book for the Hotkey Young Writers Prize. It would mean the world to me if you could support Plan B by voting for the first chapter (only votes on the first chapter count) before September 13th and then encouraging as many people as possible to read and vote as well. Thank you all so much!)
