Preface- It is said that sailors of the great sea came across beautiful women. These women had long gorgeous hair and eyes as blue as the sea itself. When they sang, their voices were so magnificent and their faces so beautiful that some of the sailors jumped ship to reach them. When the men began to approach, the women turned and dove deep into the ocean showing their dazzling fins. They called these women mermaids. They said the women came from the burning galleys where the timber turned into the flesh and blood of the green daughters of the sea. The sailors said that these mermaids would assume a human form and walk the streets of a market or fair. The tales these sailors told were not believed and they were ridiculed for the rest of their lives. Every night that these men would be on the ocean, they would hear the beautiful singing of the mermaids and admire them from the ship watching them flip and twirl in the water looking more and more beautiful each night. Slowly the stories about the mermaids faded away and people forgot the tales even existed. Eventually the sailors stopped believing too and the mermaid was lost forever...or was it?
