In Hajinn, singing isn't just forbidden: it's well known that it drives people mad. When Rajheem, a boy who loves music above all else, is plucked from his lowly existence to become the personal minstrel to Raja Helen, Third Seat of Hajinn, he is overwhelmingly grateful. As a foreigner, she holds none of the Hajinni superstitions toward music. What Rajheem initially considers a stroke of luck begins to seem like part of a frightening plan. There are Fair Folk in Helen's palace, creatures who walk the line between the world of the living and the world of the dead. They steal children away from their homes in the night, never to be seen again. As the people of Hajinn grow increasingly uneasy with their ruler’s inability to rid them of this infestation, a rumor begins that the Fair Folk were sent from the country to the east. At the same time, Rajheem realizes his singing talents go far beyond the power to create music. He can freeze people in their tracks, invoke fear in the hearts of his enemies, and even bend the fabric of reality itself. This gift embroils Rajheem in Helen's plot to usurp rule of Hajinn. As Rajheem struggles to control his newfound abilities and discover the reason his people abhor music, Helen orchestrates her plans to veer Hajinn toward war with a country it has been at peace with for hundreds of years.

An ancient evil, a forgotten blade, a glorious tale. Long ago, the Dark Ones, the Obscurum, were defeated by the god Dominus and the Eternals, soldiers of his Army of Light. Dominus defeated their armies, and banished the survivors to the prison of Fire and Darkness, the Tenebris. But one fateful night, an army of orcs besieges the city of Aequalis, bringing dark tidings with their arrival: the Dark Ones have returned. Soon, Peter, son of Lysander, the last descendant of the Eternals, is called to leave the world he knows, the familiar peaks of the Aequalisian Valley, the rolling hills of the Great Plains, the crashing waves of the Nahrung River, and journey out into the unknown. Peter's journey will take him from the magical Sage's Forest, shrouded in mystery, to the soaring, treacherous peaks of the Frigid Mountains, to the great Northern City of Diophantus, to Malumterra, home of the orcs. He will face countless adversaries, monsters of darkness, the most feared beasts of the land. But ultimately, he will have to face an even mightier foe, the foe within him, who, at every moment of his quest, threatens to turn him from what is right and just. The armies of Malumterra are rising. Will Peter be able to quell the beast that lies in the dark shadows of Orbis, or will the land be consumed by the hand of the Dark Ones?

War has come to Elaech. In order to fund his new war in Gallanuul, King Allard Navri has placed unbearably high taxes on his people, taxes that they simply cannot pay. Mothers send their sons off to die for a king who cares nothing for them in a war they want no part of. Families crumble under the pressure of collecting enough money just to stay alive. Children are forced to work in slave-like conditions in order to keep food on the table. One man, however, does not stand for this. Dorad Erilion, a young lord of Elaech and a member of the former King's court, calls for the people to rise up in revolution against this new king. The lesser lords, who are suffering under the new reign because of the loss of the peasantry, flock to Dorad Erilion's banner in the hopes of defeating the King Allard in his mighty castle in Werach. This rebellion must succeed, however, for if they do not, no mortal strength can save them from the wrath of the Coward King.
