❝The Citrus Syndrome is just about the worst way there is to die. It starts with the physical illness. Vomiting, chills, hot flashes, abdominal pains, fever, muscle aches, bleeding, coughing, fatigue, headache, nausea -- You name it, we've got it. Oh, rashes too. At least it's not difficult to identify someone suffering from it. All the test subjects shared the same ashen complexion, same watery eyes and deteriorating bodies. It eats you from the inside out, until you crumble into nothing. Sure, you might say, that's bad. But what makes this the absolute worse way to die? The psychological stage. You're lucky, if you don't make it that far. Hopefully, you just contract it and kill yourself or choke on your own vomit -- spare yourself the pain. In our research, we were able to locate the part of the brain that first latches onto phobia. The part that holds your deepest fears, and where they came from. By far, the most dangerous part of the brain to mess with. I was never present for the physical experiments. Ignorance is bliss, they say. I put my chemistry degree to good use, and that was all. I didn't want to see what happened to the test subjects. We had been convinced that everything happening at the facility was humane. But I wasn't so sure.❞ #235 in Science Fiction 2/12/17 Cover by @calebwhite13

The Cartwright clan has worked the farm for almost a century. On the surface, they are prosperous pillars of the community. But once a generation, a wicked harvest must be reaped, to ensure that the family never falls. The appointed time for Joshua Cartwright's offspring approaches. He has to remind himself that we all must suffer, so that we do not take our blessings for granted. Reviews for Birthright: @Finnyh "Birthright's uniqueness, quality, and authenticity are what set it apart. A piece to indulge every fan of horror, historical fiction, and Southern Gothic themes. Ian delivers a compelling story about a family curse through the ages, all the while keeping up a sinister tone and the 'feel' of a different time and place. Ian's Deep South horrors will never fail to entrance and haunt me." @rosaimee "Ambience and tone are incredibly well weaved, in that it's both terrifying and beautiful. With each chapter it grows in complexity, and a solid backdrop enriches the plot." @LynnS13 "Birthright goes to the heart of Southern Gothic. It understands that pace is all when it comes to this special breed of horror. It doesn't boil over or spill; it simmers and goes skin deep."

An ominous night, and he awakens within an empty house. He strides through the rooms, watching, waiting, but there is no one to accompany him, no light to pay him comfort, and no plan to bid his escape. The walls are dusty and bare, and he is unable to recognize them. Photographs remain empty. Scratches cover the faces of who used to exist. An entity has brought him, and it has disappeared as quickly as he begins to hear the ringing. Fragments of the sound illuminate the dark halls. He visions a masked man, one with pride and boredom, but his imagination runs too wild. The masked man approaches, and his apparition comes to life. He raises a knife above his head. The man stands behind the creaky door and lights a match, framing the darkness of the hallway as he asks, "Why must the noise be so quiet?" The wind replies with a song. The window is sick of the sound. The masked man conceals an inner smile and whispers to himself. He lowers the knife. A clock on the wall reverses his memory, and the hour reverts to midnight. The house is silent. -+- I do not give doc truyen or any individual, website, organization, server, etc. the right to reproduce, post, publish, steal, etc. my stories and ideas.

~complete~ Charlotte is as sweet as a strawberry. She's the kind of person who will drop everything just to help you, just to put a smile on your face. She's as sweet as the sugar that constantly runs through her bloodstream, and as excitable as the rush that comes with it. And then there's Benjamin, who's as sour as a lemon. The last thing on this Godforsaken planet he wants to do is acquaint himself with her. While Charlotte is kind and caring, he's rude and vulgar, while she's friendly and innocent, he's crass and mean. So how in the hell is that going to turn out?
