Shouldering the responsibility for her nine siblings since her mother's death, Princess Illiana was reluctant to heed her father's orders for an arranged marriage. Her father threatened to beat her siblings if she did not accept and, so, Illiana was sent away to be married to the High Prince Reginald. Fearful of getting close to the man who would make her life miserable, Illiana tried her hardest to keep him out of her heart. The only issue, the way she was living with her new husband was nothing like she expected. Her thoughts became filled with questions, questions she was too afraid to ask aloud. Questions like why the other women were happy? Why the other women had wings when she was told the wings would be clipped? Why Reginald was always nice to her and never hurt her? And most of all, why was she chosen?
