Nepenthe (n.) is a fictional medicine for sorrow, literally an anti-depressant - a "drug of forgetfulness" mentioned in ancient Greek literature and Greek mythology, depicted as originating in Egypt. Trinity King has been locked away in a school for the "gifted" ever since she predicted the exact number of people murdered in the London terror attack of 2018. With every day a chore, trying to not be consumed by her thoughts and endearing stomach cramps, Trinity feels the world around her stir. And when Nathan Langston turns up, proclaiming to be able to hear the thoughts of others - and the dead - she knows she is not alone. When people start disappearing at Rosewood Asylum and School For The Gifted, Trinity can't tear away her keen eye. As more and more children vanish under the veil of the night, the numbers add up, and Trinity realizes a horrifying truth. Because whenever she blinks, the numbers 2, 4 and 9 are imprinted on her eyelids.
