The Nationalists. An epic story of love, loyalty, and rebellion in a nation on the brink of freedom. Against the backdrop of the 1916 Easter Rising, the Irish War of Independence, and the Civil War that followed, The Nationalists tells a sweeping tale of courage, heartbreak, and the struggle for Ireland's soul. When Tony McAnthony meets the passionate Angela O'Sullivan in Dublin's GPO during the Rising, their fates are forever entwined. Imprisoned after the rebellion, Tony must fight not only for Ireland but for the woman he loves. His resolve is tested when Lucy, Angela's best friend, suffers brutal violence at the hands of the Black and Tans-forcing Tony to choose between the pen and the gun, ideals and vengeance. As Ireland fractures, Angela-strong-willed and independent-chooses her own path, and the two are drawn together and torn apart by loyalty, loss, and love. Meanwhile, Father John Troy, a priest caught between conscience and obedience, faces Rome's wrath for aiding the rebels, embodying the moral turmoil of a country at war with itself. From Dublin to Kerry, Wales, and London, The Nationalists weaves together real and fictional characters-such as Eamon de Valera, Michael Collins, and others-into a vivid portrayal of revolution, culture, and identity. Everyone is changed. Nobody escapes unscathed. Has been translated into various languages, including the Irish language. Described as "capturing the heart of the nation," The Nationalists also includes the award-winning short story "The Pitboys," recently adapted for the stage and winner of Best Stage Play at the Tokyo Film and Screenwriting Awards-a powerful companion piece exploring rebellion and the price of freedom.
