FYI: I've decided to rewrite this, starting from scratch, to help with some writer's block and resolve some issues I had with the earlier chapters. This page will no longer be updated - check my Wattpad profile for a new one, with a fancy new cover. A lone irva awakens on a strange planet with no memory of his past. Confused and pursued by strange creatures through a surreal landscape, he soon discovers he's not as alone as he seems in these ruined lands. As the ruins begin to stir, he and his newfound companions find themselves on an odyssey throughout the galaxy, unraveling the twin mysteries of his past and the Phage that pursues him. But will they be able to figure out what's happening before it's too late to stop the Phage's hunger? This story is a fanfic of Matt Lauth's book series Spectra. You can read the first book here: https://www.wattpad.com/story/123256101-spectra-the-mark-of-eden Echoes doesn't intersect the main plot of Spectra much, but there might be a few spoilers to some lore bits here and there. Tread carefully. Cover art by myself, which is why it's not very good haha. Will likely have it replaced with something better in the future.

Valentine has awoken with nothing but a name. Note awakens with nothing but a doctrine. Each has found themselves in Spectra, a strange galaxy with a unique and mysterious history. Spectra is home to many different forms of life, all of whom revere a long-dead race of beings they call the Architects. Though they are now gone, there are still remnants of them left behind in the forms of their creations, the Sentinels, autonomous drones that enforce tenets all must follow. Then there's the enigma of Eden, an unknown anomaly in the center of the galaxy which the Sentinels fiercely protect. As Val and Note are hunted down by a species of gene-splicers known as the Cell for reasons as of yet undiscovered, it will only be through the friendships and alliances they forge that they'll survive. The Magicians' Republic of Benkrav is a divided country of silent conflicts, slow-roasting resentments and well-nursed wounds. In Kontrek, the capital, skilled thief Jack Behck and his unpredictable friend Freaky Pietr lead tolerable, unattractive lives as younger members of a minor gang. They usually stick to slummier areas and the kinds of trouble powerful people won't notice. Until Jack finds an urgent need to save his gang, and Pietr finds his freakishness eroding the few connections he has. Enter Jo'sook from Piro: a strangely-dressed, "not-noble" magic-wielder who doesn't get the basics of how Benkrav works. She has plans of her own for which she needs a skillful, compliant thief who will not ask questions; and a Benkravi commoner who will learn magic from her. Jack and Pietr normally wouldn't dream of approaching her, but they're getting desperate... And Jo'sook likes how they fit her plans so nicely. What looks like a straightforward, easily executed deal ends up nothing like what they negotiated. Their lives and their country will never go back to what they were before. **This story is recommended for ages 15+ due to mature content (criminal activity, substance abuse, references to prostitution).
