I remember the day I first heard of them. I was driving my van with my mother in the passenger seat. The news channel was playing over the radio. The current story was suddenly cut off and a man's voice crackled over the speakers: "We interrupt this program to bring you breaking news," He began. "A new disease is spreading rapidly all over the world and infecting humans. Nobody is sure what it is; but we know one thing, It was stolen." A new voice came over the radio. "Hello, citizens of California! I'm here with Nicole Bradson, the leading researcher in Virus Studies at Baily University." The man said. "Would you like to tell us about this strange new epidemic?" A panicked-sounding voice came from the woman, she was clearly not pleased. "All I can tell you is to run. This virus was stolen from our laboratory. It was locked up for a very good reason. It is highly contagious and spreads through bodily fluids. You need to run from it. If it's too late to run, lock yourself somewhere safe until rescue teams can find you and escort you to safety. Do not panic." The man with the news crew interrupted her with questions. "Run from what, exactly? What should we perceive as a threat?" The woman paused for a moment as if thinking. "Do not attempt to approach anyone with red eyes. They are infected with the virus." Her voice trembled. "They are unstoppable." ~~~~~~~~~~~ This story is heavily inspired by "A Different Virus - Heartfire" by Crystal Scherer. If you haven't read it or "A Different Virus - Laura's Story" (Also by Crystal Scherer), please consider checking them out first. Finished it? It's awesome, I know. Well, here's my version, the story of Ivy and her struggle to survive the Apocalypse. Do you think she can do it? Or will she number among the ever-growing, ever-hungry horde of humans turned monster?

"It was Hell's kitchen. On the dirty checker floors, was blood. Red mush stained over almost the entire floor. And I see Mommy's body lying there motionless, surrounded by gross, rotten inhumane-like things. They were tearing her apart, eating her flesh, guts and any other remaining traces of meat left with their long, clawed fingers. It was them. They were exactly the ones I remember seeing on T.V. with mommy and daddy; they were the things called 'zombies'." 12 year old Rima Orlume loses her parents during a zombie virus attack. Luckily, she was saved by her father's dear friend...or was she? ______________________________________________________ Copyrighted © 2011 10deadmask01. All rights reserved. Occupants: 1,000,000. Survivors: 1. Proc 1 lay battered on New Jersey's shore. Willow emerges from the fire to a crater. The black heap of the blast radius extends in all directions. Steam billows from the singed sand like white vapors. The fractured ship towers to the sky. The ringing in her ears won't stop. The robotic voice of ARC replays over and over. The ship is going down. But it was too late. Everyone was dead. The first signs of life come from the burned bodies on the beach, rising from the ashes like dark wraiths. This was only the beginning. Willow flees the wreckage, her mind raging between fury and sorrow. She's alone. She can feel it. But, there's something else out there. She knows it. When more of the dead begin to rise, Willow shifts her course north. There's only one place she knows to go that might offer some answers: Camp Grayling. If it even existed. With only her uncle's memories to go by, finding the FEMA camp proves more hazardous than she anticipated. When she arrives, she's not the only one. There are people here. People outside the reach of SIND; so she thinks. Even here, among the tunnels of the mountain, remnants of SIND can be seen. As she journeys deeper seeking answers to her questions, she learns the hardest truth of them all: she's not who she thinks she is. The post-apocalyptic quest of Willow comes to a close in this epic final chapter. When the shroud finally lifts and the answers are revealed, will they be too much for Willow to accept?
