Kassidy grew up hearing the same jokes.
Her family was crazy.
Paranoid.
Doomsday preppers wasting their lives preparing for something that would never happen.
At nineteen, Kass inherited everything they left behind-the land, the house, livestock, solar power, wells, fuel, food, weapons, medical supplies, and years' worth of preparations hidden behind a heavily secured gate.
Then the power went out.
Not for an hour.
Not for a day.
Everywhere.
Phones die. Gas pumps stop working. Stores are stripped bare. Hospitals begin failing. Atlanta starts tearing itself apart as ordinary people realize help isn't coming.
And suddenly, Kassidy's family doesn't seem so crazy anymore.
Rick Grimes knew Kass's father since school, and when the world begins falling apart, he knows exactly where there might still be food, clean water, and safety.
But knowing Kassidy doesn't mean owning what belongs to her.
Her property.
Her supplies.
Her rules.
Rick and Shane can give advice. They can help protect the land. They can even tell her when they think she's wrong.
What they cannot do is overrule her.
There will be no council deciding who comes through her gate. No stranger gets welcomed inside because somebody feels sorry for them. Being family, being useful, or knowing Rick Grimes doesn't guarantee anyone a place.
Kassidy decides.
And at nineteen years old, with a level head, years of survival training, and a smart-ass mouth that gets worse every time someone questions her authority, she has no problem saying the one word people are going to learn to hate.
No.
There are no walkers coming.
No dead rising from their graves.
This time, the monsters are still alive.
And when the grid falls, Kass is about to find out exactly how far people will go for what her family left behind.
