Slaying dragons is what Vivica does best. She can disappear into the forest with only her bow and arrow (and maybe some troublesome thoughts), and re-emerge a few weeks later to collect her payment from the Crown. The money may not be a lot, but it does support her and her sister, Naleena. But now the Crown has grown uncomfortable with the idea of allowing a woman-a girl, really-to go off on her own to face such dangerous creatures. Vivica is left with only one option: to accept a quest presented to her by someone who is equally uncomfortable with her presence and skills. The clock is ticking as one of the King's own slowly dies of a disease with a cure so difficult to find, none have succeeded. Vivica knows the layout of Valentia. She knows its secrets. But it's her secrets, and the secrets of her travel companion, that she should be worried about.

Everyone is hiding from something; a secret, a lie. Mine just happens to be a curse, one bestowed upon me before my first birthday; a curse that says I'm supposed to die before I turn sixteen. But that isn't going to happen, because I have a plan. You see, it's impossible to prick your finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel if you're locked in a cell.

My name is Tide. I'd love to say hi and all, but if I tell you my location two very bad things could happen. First, someone who isn't really on my list of favorite people might find the information. Then, they would hunt us down and try to use our powers to take over the world and other maniacal things. Yeah, not so fun. However, I'd like it if people knew how things really happened. You may see things on the news, and they may sound bad, but trust me, this is the real story. Because I'm an Elemental. And somebody needs to set the record straight.* [Action #101] [Fantasy #2] :: cover credit goes to the lovely ATXNNA :: *heyo so this book is pretty old, some (a lot of) spelling mistakes, some (a lot of) plot holes, but if you're looking for some fast paced action and some sarcasm and some cliche romance you should honestly just go to the second book but yeah, this has got that, just with, you know, the glaring faults in the story line. Just a warning.

Hey, it's me again. Yes, Tide, the one and only Double Elemental. Even among the freaks I'm a freak. How fun. But enough about that. I'm a little busy trying to save the world from a genocidal woman who may or may not still be alive. I'm not entirely sure. So, because I have an unfortunate sense of morality, I am leaving the the peaceful beaches of Hawaii to travel to Russia and save the world from the above mentioned genocidal woman. Yay me. Dear Reader, It hadn't hit me right away, many things, but especially the fact that I was about to turn twenty years old. It was as if it was just yesterday that I was learning how to make a peanut butter sandwiches, tie my shoes, and draw endlessly with fat crayons--which I thoroughly believed to be a masterpiece. It had to be yesterday, when I was befriending any new person that I met with a dazzling smile. No, those were the years that I was numb--masked from the world and blissfully unaware of the dangers and lingering dark edges of the Chicago city. Life moves fast; terrifyingly fast for some, especially those who try and anchor down each and every day of their existence. For others, it moves drearily slow. I use to be numb, I use to be unaware of the shadows deep within the corners of the earth, the watchful figures around me. I use to draw scribbles, struggle to tie my shoes, and fail at doing the simple things, like tying shoes. I use to make friends with anyone I met and kept that friendship over a promise. I use to do a lot of things, actually. But that was when life was a whole lot simpler, safer, and perfect. That was before I knew about Death. That was before he became my frenemy.
