After the war, Hermione Granger seemed to be the mentally bruised member of the trio. Harry was physically bruised, but masked it with a glistening smile, and Ron was emotionally bruised, grieving over the loss of Fred. Difficulties and differences drove Hermione and Ron apart, but only made things more difficult with others. Hermione, for years did not know, that the key she was looking for, was standing right next to her, preferably on her left, through it all.

The war had more than taken it's tole on the golden trio, and Harry was worn, tired and filled with sadness and grieving. He felt so much sorrow, and had no idea what to do with it. But he started to get distant to Ginny and gravitate towards Hermione, who seemed to be one of the only people capable of making him happy.

In his first few weeks at Hogwarts, Harry Potter notices the bushy haired girl from the train struggling to fit in, but he already has a friend. He wants to be her friend too, but he's not sure how to be friends with two people who don't like each other.
