All the time you get complements but right after that you hear your skin color. Yeah, your skin is dark, but why should that matter. Every little statement that's made about you always has to have but she's darkskin. Ones beauty, personality, anything, shouldn't be jeopardized because of their skin color. Some people learn that the hard way, some people don't see that they're beautiful no matter what skin color they are... All events in this story is fictional. The names, people, and some places aren't real and aren't real people. This book is for enjoyment and reading purposes only. The events that take place in this story did not really happen in the place it resides, and these people do not actually exist. The book will have mistakes because I am not perfect and it will be edited sometime after the book is completed. Do not try to steal this story or make it your own thanks xoxoxo © Vida P. 2014-2015

There really wasn't any stopping it. It wasn't my fault that my skin was as dark as the night, or my nose was broader than any other's, my hair was always rough looking and broke easily. There was nothing I could do, because to them I will and always will be, the black girl. HR: #3 Short Story Graphic by caesium-

My name is Melanin Audrey Hayes, but the people closest to me call me Chocolate. Im 15 years old and extremely focused on my education and my dance. I plan to go to Spelman when I'm older and I won't let anything get in the way of it. I live with my parents and my two older brothers Isaiah and Josiah. They make sure that I want for nothing and that I get treated how they feel i should. I don't live in a mansion, but i don't live in a bad neighborhood either, We're an average middle-classed family. At this point boys are not really on my mind, I have more important things to worry about. I'm obviously dark and i love it, I never have, or will be ashamed of who i am. It's just me... Its Melanin.

I know living as a black girl has its problems, and ups and down. Some of us can relate. Living day to day we face many challenges that other races may not understand. Some may never understand. We can come together and share our experiences and try to over come them though. But some are permanent.
