"Elisabet, wait!" Maddox called, as I picked up my pace. He caught up to me and grabbed my arm harshly.
"I said wait!" he growled, yanking me back to him.
"No, Maddox. Leave me alone! I knew better than this. I knew better than to get involved with a guy like you!" My anger rose and I jerked away.
"I didn't- I thought you were different, Elisabet." He explained quickly.
"Oh, really?" I rolled my eyes. "You thought I'd be okay with you pretending that the last two months haven't meant something?!" I nearly screamed, slapping his chest with both of my hands, making him stumble.
"I thought that since we hadn't talked about it, that we weren't anything and-"
"No, Maddox! You never talked about it! I constantly tried to explain my feelings to you, with nothing in return from you." I started to feel tears welling up in my eyes.
"Elisabet, please. I'm sorry." Maddox whispered and reached for me, but I stepped back.
"You're just worried about your reputation. I get it. I'm nobody. I'm not good enough to be Maddox Haven's girlfriend, so you wanted to keep me a secret." Tears started slipping from my eyes.
I couldn't keep the tough front up anymore. I was weak. I'd given my heart to Maddox Haven, University of Houston's biggest hottie and star athlete, and now I'm weak.
Maddox just stood there, looking at the ground. Of course, he had nothing to say. Because he knew I was right.
I turned and started to walk back to my dorm building, only wishing I could erase the last two months.
I wish I would have stayed in that night that I let Madyson drag me to that stupid fucking party.
I wish I'd never set foot in Maddox Haven's direction, because now that I have, I let him have too much of me.
And now, I have to break away.
