It's almost funny how much your life can change within the course of the summer. Mine sure did. How? I met a boy--the most annoying, persistent, unbearably attractive, sad-excuse-for-a-womanizer type of male in existence. Although if it wasn't for him, I'd be dead, so I guess I can't complain. He's also helping me figure out some things about my family and all that, which is nice. But let me get one thing straight--under no uncertain terms am I, Maria Rose Smith, in any way, shape, or form, in love with Alexander Henderson--and, under no uncertain terms, is he /not/ in love with me. Given what we've found together, though, this begs the question: What does /any/ of this have to do with my /mother/, of all people? ~~ In other words, this is a story about a girl unlocking the secrets of her family's past as well as simultaneously battling her own inner demons and struggling to keep her sanity. **WARNING: use of foul language, gore, etc..
