I stood on my tiptoes, arm extending as I felt around the top shelf of the cupboard. Frustration could be felt as I came up with nothing, a sigh emitting from my lips. Before I pulled my hand away, my index finger brushed a hard object. Excitement began to bubble in me as I jumped, grasping the prize in my hand and pushing the wooden door closed. The delicious smell made my mouth began to water as I closed my eyes, breathing in deeply. I was so hungry. The potato that I held in my hands was cold but cooked, and the feeling of accomplishment added to the sensation. It was about five inches long, enough to split between three girls. And then, I heard it. The wooden floor squeaking, footsteps being heard as I closed my eyes and prayed that they would not see me. I knew that I had been caught when I felt a presence behind me. "What the hell are you doing in here?" Someone said harshly. The year is 1917 when Lily has to move away from her home and live as a servant in New York.
